Julius Abure, the National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), has been officially suspended.
The decision was made at a meeting of the state executive committee in Benin on Friday night.
The suspension, effective immediately, was communicated to Abure through letters dated May 14th and May 15th.
Julius Abure was advised to refrain from identifying himself as a member of the party following the suspension.
The letters of suspension were signed by Ward Chairman Thompson Ehiguese and Ward Secretary Stanley Usiomoh.
“While the suspension is with immediate effect, you are advised to refrain from holding out or parading yourself as a member of Labour Party, Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State,” the letter said in part.
The State Executive Committee, led by Kelly Ogbaloi, supported the decisions made by the ward and local government committee of the party.
Ogbaloi explained that the state executive council had no choice but to endorse the suspension, which was also approved by the executive council of the party in Esan North East local government area.
The state deputy chairman of the party also supported the decision.
Also, the state deputy chairman of the party, Mr. Patrick Agbontaen, said the party was fed up with the series of allegations of misdemeanour against the embattled national chairman and was fully in agreement with the decision to suspend him until further notice.
