The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has confirmed the arrest of one Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau for attempting to take his own life.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Monday that the arrest followed a distress call from concerned citizens about the young man who climbed a very high mast belonging to the ASO Radio in Katampe on Monday morning.

She said that upon the receipt of the information, operatives of the command swiftly mobilised to the location to prevent the man from killing himself.

“With much professional persuasion from the police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from taking his own life,” she added.

Upon interrogation, the young man said his decision followed the worsening economic situation of the country, saying, “people are dying everywhere.”

He claimed to have been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it.
