Gareth Southgate has resigned from his role as England manager. This comes just two days after the Three Lions defeated Spain 2- 1 in the Euro 2024 final, their second consecutive defeat in the competition’s final.

Southgate’s contract was set to end in December, and the FA wanted the 53-year-old to return for the 2026 World Cup after he had led England to two finals, a semifinal, and a quarter-final in his previous four tournaments.

However, Southgate has received much criticism for his conservative attitude throughout the finals, and he warned German newspaper Bild prior to the tournament that if England did not win their first men’s championship in 58 years, he would “probably not be here.”

Asked about his future, Southgate told ITV: “I don’t think now is a good time to make a decision like that. I need to talk to the right people. It’s not for now.”
