Nigerian singer Simi has taken to social media to express her frustration and disappointment over the misinterpretation of her recent statement, where she said she doesn’t really listen to music.

Following the backlash from social media users, Simi cleared the air, stating that she doesn’t know songs or artists outside of her personal circle.

In a series of posts on X, Simi explained that she doesn’t listen to music, including her own, except for a brief period when she’s working on a new project. Also, she revealed that she only knows her husband, Adekunle Gold‘s music because they are married.

Additionally, Simi emphasized that her statement was not a flex but her truth, and she’s terrible at keeping up with new music.

Meanwhile, Simi’s clarification comes after her recent interview on the Zero Conditions Podcast, where she made the initial statement that sparked controversy. However, she expressed disappointment with media coverage, accusing some outlets of twisting her words to provoke negative reactions.

Also, Simi stressed that she hates doing interviews sometimes because they don’t care about supporting her, instead opting to lie or post things out of context to pile on her.

Furthermore, a curious fan asked Simi if she actually said she doesn’t listen to music, to which she responded, “I don’t listen to anything. I find a voice I like, I binge their project for a month and move on. I don’t listen to songs or know any artists that are not in my face. It’s not a flex. It’s just my truth.”

Notwithstanding, Simi’s statement has sparked a debate among music lovers. While some defended her right to her personal preferences, others expressed surprise that an artist of her caliber doesn’t listen to music.

Despite the controversy, Simi remains unapologetic and firm in her stance, insisting that she’s being honest about her habits.
