Manchester United under INEOS finally resembles a proper football club again with multiple appointments made over the course of the summer to change the structure of the club.

That included revamping the recruitment team with a new CEO Omar Berrada brought in from Manchester City as well as a new technical director in the form of Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth who joined as the new Football director.

Christopher Vivell was brought in as interim director of recruitment and as per The Manchester Evening News, he has impressed the hierarchy enough to prolong his stay at the club.

He will be in charge at least until the January transfer window when INEOS will conduct another review and a permanent job might yet be offered to the former RB Salzburg head of recruitment.

Vivell could be set for extended stay

“Christopher Vivell will stay on as Manchester United’s interim director of recruitment for the January transfer window after playing a key role in a successful summer window for the club.

“Vivell has signed a contract until February and will remain in his role until then, with a possibility he then takes up the position on a permanent basis, with the club and the 37-year-old German both happy with how the relationship has worked so far.

“A final review into his post will take place at the end of the January window, with sporting director Dan Ashworth still finalising how he wants the football department to operate, while Vivell will also decide if the role is suitable and whether he wants to stay in Manchester long-term.”

The club had a solid window with five new signings brought in, with a special emphasis on bringing the overall age of the squad down while also improving the team immediately.

The club also had its best-ever window in terms of money brought in through player sales with the figure touching £100 million.

Vivell has impressed

Vivell played a particular key role in the acquisition of Sekou Kone with Vivell’s background on emerging talents coming in rather handy.

He was credited with landing Erling Haaland for Salzburg while the Austrian club also signed Benjamin Sesko, Dayot Upamecano and Karim Adeyemi, just to name a few, all under Vivell’s watch.

It will be hoped United can be active in January as well with left-back and a forward still needed. The club have not started the season well and manager Erik ten Hag is already feeling the heat.

A good window could go a long way in deciding the course of his stay at the club. Vivell has given him the ingredients in the summer, now he must perform or perish.
