5th December – Footballing birthdays

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is 29 today. The Frenchman currently plays for AEK Athens in Greece and has previously played for Lyon, Monaco and Sevilla.

Aston Villa’s Ross Barkley turned 31 today. Barkley has played for Everton, Chelsea and Luton Town, with a season at Nice in France. He has 33 England caps, with the last coming in 2019 and has scored six goals for his country.

Lee Chapman, who was part of the Leeds United side that won the First Division in 1991/92 is 59 today. He played for fourteen clubs during his career, including time in France and Norway and scored more than 250 goals.

Cult hero Carlton Palmer is 58 today. The former midfielder played 18 times for England during Graham Taylor’s time in charge and also spent time as manager of Stockport County, Mansfield Town and non-league Grantham Town.
