6th January – Footballing Birthdays

There is a twist to today’s footballing birthdays. Three people will get a mention with the third having a tribute article written about him later on today.

The first birthday is Andy Carroll, who celebrates his 35th birthday today. He currently plays in the south of France for Bordeaux but more notably played for Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Ham United.
Carroll played in nine games for England and scored twice, including a header against Sweden at the 2012 European Championships.

Former Republic of Ireland defender Paul McShane is 38 today. He began his career at Manchester United, before joining West Brom after loan spells with Walsall and Brighton.
McShane then moved to Sunderland and Hull City where he also had spells on loan at Barnsley and Crystal Palace. McShane left Hull to join Reading and finally ended his career at Rochdale.

McShane won 33 caps for the Republic of Ireland between 2006 and 2016.

The third and final birthday of note is Terry Venables, who sadly passed away last year. I will be writing a tribute article about the former England manager later on today.
