Stand-in head coach of the Super Eagles, Daniel Ogunmodede, has announced the selection of 26 players who will participate in a closed-door training camp in preparation for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
CHAN 2024, which showcases the talents of African players exclusively from their domestic leagues, will mark an important event for the Nigerian team, which aims to reclaim its status on the continental stage.
The invited players are expected to assemble at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, a noted facility for football development, on Monday, January 6. This camp is a crucial step in the team’s preparation, allowing the coaching staff to assess player fitness and team dynamics ahead of the tournament.
Coach Ogunmodede has maintained faith in the squad that successfully secured their place in the championship by defeating the Black Galaxies of Ghana with a convincing 3-1 aggregate score in the final qualifying round. This victory highlights the team’s resilience and sets a positive tone for their campaign at CHAN 2024.
The Super Eagles will return to the CHAN after a six-year hiatus, and they will be looking to make an impact on the tournament, which is set to take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025. This year, the competition will be co-hosted by three nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, providing a unique opportunity for the players to showcase their talents on an international platform.
Senegal, reigning champions of the tournament, will be looking to defend their title after claiming victory during the last edition held in Algeria.
