President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel from Abuja to Accra on January 6 to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
“Tinubu’s trip to Accra is at the invitation of the president-elect, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December,” Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed this in a statement he signed Sunday.
The event will be attended by various African leaders, including Tinubu as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Mahama, who previously served as the 12th president of Ghana from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024.
According to Onanuga, “Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship.”
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other government officials will also accompany President Tinubu on this trip to Ghana, marking his second visit to the country.
