President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have led the chorus of congratulations pouring in for Nigerian singer, Tems, after her historic win at the 67th Grammy Awards.

President Tinubu took to X to express his pride and admiration for Tems‘ accomplishments. He wrote: “Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje’. I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!”

Governor Sanwo-Olu also congratulated Tems on her win. He described the award as a prestigious recognition that highlights her exceptional talent and significant contribution to the music industry. “Temilade Openiyi once again has proved to the world that she is a creative of an uncommon talent,” he said. “We thank her for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. As a Lagosian, we are excited with her success.”

The governor also emphasized that Tems’ Grammy win is proof of Lagos’ status as the true home of entertainment, creativity, tourism, culture, and arts. “Tems winning the 67th Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance is a confirmation that our dear Lagos State remains the hub of entertainment, creativity and tourism in the West African sub-region,” he said.

Tems’ fans are ecstatic over her historic Grammy win, with their excitement further amplified by congratulatory messages from high-profile figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Meanwhile, Tems’ win marks her second Grammy Award. She was also nominated for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning). Her hit song Love Me Jeje beat out other notable nominations. This includes Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy.
