Award-winning singer and performer Ayra Starr has received the award and recognition of the best international act at the MOBO Awards 2025.
Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has been named Best International Act at the prestigious MOBO Awards, a British ceremony dedicated to recognizing excellence in music of Black origin.
She triumphed in a highly competitive category, surpassing notable nominees such as South African amapiano star Tyla, American hip-hop heavyweights Kendrick Lamar and Megan Thee Stallion, and two-time Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Tems.
Ayra Starr became the first female act to win the highly coveted award for the first time in over 15 years.
Starr’s win comes on the heels of an eventful year, marked by the release of her sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21.’
She has taken her music to global stages, touring extensively and gracing prestigious festivals like Glastonbury.
This latest MOBO recognition further cements Starr’s rising status in the global music industry.
The awards, which celebrate the best in Black music and culture, honor outstanding contributions across various genres, including Hip-Hop, Grime, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Electronic/Dance, Alternative, Gospel, and African music.
With 2025 already proving to be a standout year, Starr continues to make waves. She was recently featured in Issue 28 of ‘Blanc Magazine,’ titled ‘Rule The World,’ where she shared insights into her journey and reflected on the crucial role her family and friends have played in building her confidence.
