Exclusive: Ruben Amorim Liverpool talks “have taken place”, confirms Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool have had concrete talks with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as they work on replacing Jurgen Klopp for next season.

The Portuguese tactician seems to be emerging as the clear front-runner now to replace Klopp at Anfield, but it’s not a done deal just yet, according to transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Liverpool have had talks with Amorim, but things are not necessarily quite as advanced yet as some other reports have made out.

Romano addressed claims that a three-year deal has more or less been agreed between Amorim and LFC, but the Italian reporter insists we’re not at that stage just yet, even if things seem to be progressing in the right direction.

Ruben Amorim to Liverpool?

Amorim to Liverpool could be on, but for now we’re still waiting for the Merseyside giants to make their final choice, according to Romano.

Amorim to Liverpool update from Romano’s column

Responding to latest headlines about Amorim and the Liverpool job, Romano said: “I wanted to clarify the situation on Ruben Amorim again, as I’ve had many Liverpool fans asking me about the stories of an agreement being close for him to replace Jurgen Klopp on a three-year deal.

“My understanding remains that we are not yet at the final stages of the story. It’s true that contacts are really concrete – talks have taken place and will keep taking place, but we have to be patient and wait for the moment Liverpool make their final choice.

“I respect other journalists, but this remains my information for the moment so I think we still have to wait a bit longer for a conclusion to this saga.

“In my opinion, Amorim would be a great option for Liverpool as he’s a smart, excellent modern coach. I’ve been really impressed by what he’s done at Sporting and I’m sure he could be a success at Anfield, if he ends up getting the job.”
