Newcastle plotting Ashworth revenge on United with major move planned for three INEOS targets - report

Manchester United are currently languishing in eighth place in the Premier League after their loss on Sunday and are in danger of failing to qualify for Europe altogether next season.

Injuries have decimated the first team squad while manager Erik ten Hag’s tactics have not helped either. With INEOS now on board, a lot of changes are expected ahead of the new season.

Plenty of players are expected to be moved on as part of a summer clearout with Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial among the names who are confirmed to leave.

Reinforcements will be required all across the pitch considering United’s terrible defensive record as well as their inability to score in this campaign.

Freedman to Newcastle

With INEOS keen to recruit players with Premier League experience, the Red Devils were reportedly looking at a number of Crystal Palace players like Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi.

Olise scored a brace against the Manchester giants last week while Eze was on fire in that game as well. Guehi has been a long-term target as well.

Dougie Freedman, Palace’s sporting director, had done a great job in recruiting young talents from the Championship who have gone on to excel in the Eagles first team.

There were murmurs that legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was pushing for the club to try and acquire Freedman’s signature as head of recruitment.

But nothing has panned out so far with the 20-time English league champions still trying to get Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth while recently appointing Jason Wilcox as technical director.

With the Magpies set to lose Ashworth, they planned the perfect revenge by going after Freedman and if the move does indeed materialise, it could spell trouble for United’s hopes of landing the Palace trio.

As per Football Insider, Freedman will try to bring the talented stars to St James’ Park but whether the Eagles will agree to sell all three in the same window remains to be seen.

With multiple big clubs already in the race, the Magpies might not find it as easy as the rumour mill would have one believe.

“Newcastle United hold a strong interest in Crystal Palace stars Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, sources have told Football Insider.

Newcastle eyeing United targets

“The Magpies are close to appointing Palace technical director Dougie Freedman to replace Dan Ashworth – who agreed a move to Man United in February.

“All three players were brought to Selhurst Park by the Scot, who took the post in Croydon in 2017. However, it is believed Newcastle are aware that Palace’s valuations of their star assets could prove a sticking point as they plan their summer business.”

All three are on long-term contracts and due to PSR concerns, Newcastle will find it difficult to attract all three this summer. They first need to sell players before they can even think of going on a recruitment spree.

Hopefully, INEOS can get their house in order before Newcastle and can pip them to Olise at least, who is said to be the only target that the new management have greenlit so far.
