Yul Edochie, a Nollywood actor, has written to Nollywood producers to express his disgust with the type of films they produce.

The actor emphasized how they make movies in which Nigerians fly overseas and behave foolishly. He believes that by telling such stories, we are shortchanging ourselves.

He observed that other countries do not make movies in which a white guy visits Africa and acts foolishly; rather, they make the white man smarter than the Africans.

Yul said they use their movies to promote themselves as superheroes, whereas Africans use them to find themselves.

“I wish our producers would stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad dey mumu.
We sell ourselves short with such storylines.
Oyibo people will never make a movie where a white man is foolish on African soil.
Instead, they’ll make the white man smarter than all the Africans in the movie.
It’s intentional.
They use movies to sell themselves as superheroes while we use ours to run ourselves down”.

He added, “Any name you give your dog, that’s what everybody will call it”.
