Award-winning United academy duo among four to receive national call-ups to round off fantastic season

Manchester United youngsters Ethan Wheatley and Elyh Harrison are among four of the academy’s starlets who have been called up to represent England’s youth teams this summer.

The two have been named in the Under-18s squad for their upcoming friendlies against North Ireland and Morocco.

Harrison was included as part of a goalkeeping contingent also consisting of George Pickford and Sam Proctor.

Meanwhile, his teammate Wheatley will be vying for a place in the team against other forwards such as Ato Ampah, Romelle Donovan, Ajay Matthews, Elijah Morrison, Mathew Warhurst and Kadan Young.

This latest achievement for Harrison and Wheatley comes off the back of the pair winning two of United’s most prestigious end-of-season academy awards.

Wheatley claimed the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year prize while Harrison was handed the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year accolade. The former especially has had a very exciting couple of weeks.

He became the 250th academy graduate to represent the United first team when he came on from the bench in the 4-2 win against Sheffield United last month.

Wheatley has since made two other appearances for United.

In the U18 Premier League this term, the striker has been sensational. He has plundered an impressive eight goals and two assists in seven appearances.

The 18-year-old has also made the step up to Under-21s football and in total, has notched 14 goals across the various levels.

Harrison in goal has equally been impressive this term and continues to be tipped for a bright future at Old Trafford.

In the U18 Premier League, Harrison has only conceded six goals in five games and has one clean sheet to his name.

Apart from Wheatley and Harrison, two other Reds have also been called up by the Three Lions, this time in a younger age group.

Full-back Harry Amass and midfielder Jack Fletcher form part of the 21-man group set to play in the Under-17 European Championship.

All four players mentioned played a crucial role as the Under-18s achieved Premier League North success. The Red Devils also won the Premier League Cup final and were crowned national league champions after beating Chelsea 2-1.

Their respective call-ups to the England squad are thoroughly deserved and hopefully, they go on to prove their mettle this summer.
