Manchester United are close to sealing the signings of Dutch duo Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee but considering what transpired last season, a lot more needs to be done.
But before further recruitment, the club need to move on players and raise capital to balance their books with Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood tipped to depart first.
Another player who spent last season out on loan was Facundo Pellistri, with the Uruguayan spending the second-half of last season at Spanish side Granada.
Erik ten Hag afforded a few opportunities to the 22-year-old but he failed to impress and looked far too raw for a club of United’s size.
Pellistri in demand
In La Liga, the former Penarol star netted twice while registering the same number of assists, most notably impressing against Barcelona.
He is currently on Copa America duty, helping his nation reach the last four of the tournament. His displays in the United States have impressed quite a few clubs who are looking to try and snap up the winger permanently.
His United deal ends in 2025 and the Red Devils are also open to a sale and Real Valladolid are the latest side to throw their name into the hat.
As per Estadio Deportivo, manager Paulo Pezzolano would love for his compatriot to join and publicly made the club’s stance known. But whether the newly-promoted side can afford to pay a fee and the player’s wages remains to be seen.
“He would be a very important player. We talked about many names (with the sporting management) and one of them, without a doubt, is him. I think it would be very beneficial for him to be with us, although there are financial details that may or may not happen.
“We know it’s not easy for us. I love him, but I haven’t dared to call him because I want him to give his best for the national team, although I suppose his agent will have let him know.
Real Valladolid want Pelli
“Coming to a team like ours in pre-season, adapting well to the group, knowing that he’s coming to an intense, dynamic, vertical team when he’s on the outside… He can really shine when he steps into the area. It could be good for him,” the manager was quoted as saying.
United had signed Pellistri for €8.50 million in 2020 while the player earns €23,560 per week (via capology). He has made 24 appearances for the 20-time English league champions but is yet to register a goal but did pick up two assists.
He will be afforded a break post his Copa exploits but is expected to rejoin pre-season training before a likely move away from the club.
The Old Trafford side would like to earn a profit from the Uruguay international’s sale while the winger would also likely demand for a raise in his wages if he were to move to a new club.
