Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has resigned and left the country following weeks of deadly protests, leading to one of the worst instances of violence in the nation’s history.
According to BBC reports, she is on her way to Tripura, the capital of Agartala in India.
While there has been no official confirmation of her resignation and departure from Dhaka, media sources indicate that Hasina, along with her sister, underwent a military mission to India’s West Bengal state.
The protests, sparked by a controversial quota system for government jobs, resulted in widespread public unrest against Hasina’s government.
The army chief is expected to address the nation soon, and the government has implemented a complete internet shutdown amidst calls for a “Long March to Dhaka” by protestors.
