Burna Boy, Asake, Tyla, others score MTV EMA nominations for Afrobeats category

The Afrobeats category for the 2024 MTV EMAs will be keenly contested.

MTV has announced the nominations for the 2024 MTV EMAs, which will take place in Manchester, United Kingdom, for the first time. One of the most anticipated categories this year is the Afrobeats category, reflecting the genre’s global rise.

The event is scheduled to be held at the new Co-op Live arena on Sunday, November 10, and will be broadcast live worldwide, honoring artists and music in pop culture for their contributions and impact. The nominations list sees Taylor Swift leading the pack with seven nominations. Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter follow closely behind with five nominations each, featuring in major categories such as “Best Song,” “Best Video,” and “Best Artist.”

From Africa, Ayra Starr and Tyla shine with three nominations each in prominent categories like “Best New,” “Best Afrobeats,” “Best Push,” and “Best R&B.”

In the highly competitive Afrobeats category, heavyweights like Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Rema, Tems, and Tyla will go head-to-head, making it one of the most exciting contests of the night.
