Manchester United are taking some time to find their feet under new head coach Ruben Amorim who has suffered some mixed results since taking charge at Old Trafford.
Back-to-back losses halted the momentum after a couple of entertaining wins against Bodo/Glimt and Everton, respectively.
Amorim’s has rotated his squad after each game and is on a clear mission to work out which positions are in most need of surgery going into next summer’s transfer window.
United are unlikely to make any additions in January but there could be a surprise return for a former player, according to ex-front man Louis Saha.
As reported by The Express, Saha believes compatriot Paul Pogba might be offered the chance to rejoin the club after leaving Juventus at the end of his ban for doping offences.
The French midfielder has been in talks to use United’s training facilities to get back up to speed after his absence and Saha says it could be a route back into the fold at Old Trafford.
“I’ve heard some rumours that Paul Pogba will be offered the opportunity to come back and train with Man United in the New Year, and I think that would be a great opportunity for Paul,” Saha said.
“He needs to get back to his best level as quickly as possible, and training with top players will help him to do that. I think he would be thrilled to have the opportunity to go back to the club,” he said.
Saha continued by stating Pogba’s “unique qualities” make him a “very special player” and feels United could use someone of his profile in their midfield at the moment.
“I think the United squad lacks power in the midfield, and we’re missing a skilful player that can play box-to-box, so he would be a good addition [to the United squad] because he’s a different profile of player to what United have,” said Saha.
Considering Pogba is now without a club, Saha feels many Premier League sides will be looking at the Frenchman to bolster their options in the winter and United should be one of those holding interest.
“All the top clubs in the Premier League should see signing Pogba on a free transfer as an amazing opportunity. That’s how I see it.
When I think about Pogba, there are more positives with signing him than there are negatives, and I think he’s a player that should interest Manchester United in January,” he added.
There has been no official word on whether United are opening their doors to Pogba for him to get back to full fitness but re-signing the former academy graduate would certainly be a surprise move from INEOS.
Having twice left Manchester under a cloud, Pogba looked to have burnt his bridges at Old Trafford. But never say never in football, with United certainly in need of adding extra quality and bodies to their current, underperforming crop.
