Crothall Healthcare’s dedication to patient care took on new meaning this past Veteran’s Day, reaching military veterans living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through the thoughtful donation of personal hygiene kits.
Crothall’s unique Power of Clean approach is designed to create a clinically safe environment, achieve HCAHPS cleanliness goals, and address both the reality and perception of clean. The hygiene kits —containing a sleep mask, ear plugs, hand wipes, body wipes, and lip balm—were developed after research showed that personal hygiene plays a significant role in shaping patient perceptions of cleanliness.
“We understand that many patients want to know they are safe in a hospital, and the kits enhance a patient’s control over their personal hygiene in an environment that is so unfamiliar to most,” says Dusty Derringer, Compass One’s vice president of Patient Experience. “It’s one more way we help them see that their safety is our top priority.”
The hygiene kits recently caught the attention of Lynette Howard, a member of the New Jersey Parent Teachers Association. Her 81-year-old father, a Korean War veteran who also completed two tours in Vietnam and received the prestigious Bull Simons Award, was receiving care at a Virginia hospital where Crothall oversees the EVS program. Inspired by their thoughtful design and potential to bring comfort, Howard connected with Crothall and Innovate Medical, Crothall’s manufacturer of the kits, to explore how she could share them with other military veterans living with PTSD.
“As Veteran’s Day approached, we wanted to do something more personal and meaningful,” says Howard. “Visiting Veterans to share these thoughtful kits felt like a heartfelt way to honor their service and show our gratitude. It was our way of letting them know they are remembered and appreciated.”
With Crothall’s full support, Innovate Medical worked closely with Lynette to provide a shipment of hygiene kits in time for Veteran’s Day, ensuring military veterans could feel cared for and appreciated through this thoughtful initiative.
“We were extremely pleased to have helped Ms. Howard honor her family’s military service and other military veterans who have served our country,” says Derringer. “It’s a great example of how a simple action can impact the lives of people in need.”
The partnership that developed between Crothall, Innovate Medical and the New Jersey PTA also demonstrated how collaboration among different organizations can have a strong reach across communities.
“There’s a reason that collaboration is one of our company’s core values,” says Derringer. “It leads to favorable outcomes that can make a difference for so many people.”
The Power of Clean helps Crothall differentiate itself from its competitors. The core differences include a comprehensive cleaning and infection program that is customized for any healthcare organization.
The program features Crothall’s signature High Profile Cleaning (HPC) program, a 10-step process to ensure a clean environment that fights HAIs. It also includes analytics to help improve a hospital’s program and other features that address cleanliness perceptions, and mitigates infection transmission and HAIs.
