On This Day – 26th January

Norwegian defender Henning Berg joined Kenny Dalglish’s Blackburn Rovers for £400,000 on this day back in 1993.

The right-back signed from Lillestrom and spent four years at Rovers, winning the league title in 1994/95 before joining Manchester United in the summer of 1997.
Berg won the Treble at United in the 1998/99 season and the Premier League the following season before returning to Ewood Park in 2000. Another trophy followed, with the League Cup being won in 2002 against Tottenham Hotspur. His final season as a player was in Scotland with Glasgow Rangers and he lifted the Scottish Premier League title.

On the international stage, Berg was an almost-ever present in a Norway shirt between 1992 and 2004, winning 100 caps and playing at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups.

After his playing days came to an end, Berg started coaching and is now in charge of Cypriot side AEK Larnaca. He spent a brief time in charge of Blackburn in a spell that lasted just 57 days!
