On This Day – 28th January

Denis Law scored an incredible six goals on this day in 1961 away to Luton Town whilst playing for Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Unfortunately for Law, the game was called off before it came to an end meaning his hard work was for nothing. It got even worse as Luton won the rearranged fixture four days later 3-1!

Law ended the campaign with 23 goals from 43 appearances and secured a move to Italian side Torino at the end of the season in a move worth £110,000. This was a record sum for a British player at the time.

Denis Law passed away earlier this month at the age of 84. You can read an obituary for him that I wrote by clicking here.
