Trump and Australian PM Albanese have spoken (probably on steel tariffs)

This will be related to the last time Trump tried to stick tariffs on Oz steel the OZ PM at the time (Turnbull) explained to him it would push up the price of steel in the US b/c its cheaper to ship OZ steel to the US than make it there in the US. This was during his first term. Let’s see how it goes this time around.

So far Albanese’s comments are giant bag of nothing much:

  • “I had a great conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. We committed to working constructively together to advance Australian and American interests.”
  • “I look forward to working closely with President Trump to create jobs and deliver benefits for both our nations.”
  • Discussed Australia’s position on US tariffs over steel and aluminium
  • Trump agreed to consider an exemption for Australian steel tariffs
