US major indices close mixed. NASDAQ lower. S&P near unchanged, DJIA higher

Major indices are closing with mixed results:

  • Dow industrial average rose 123.24 points or 0.28% at 44593.65
  • S&P index rose 2.07 points or 0.03% at 6068.51
  • NASDAQ index fell -70.41 points or -0.36% at 19643.86

The small-cap Russell 2000 was also lower on the day with a decline of -12.23 points or -0.53% at 2275.70.

In other stock specific news:

  • Meta close higher for the 17th consecutive day. Shares rose by $2.40 or 0.33% at $719.80
  • Intel rose by 6.10% on expectations for chip production in the US increasing due to tariffs. Intel is building new production facilities in the US. Shares closed up $1.20 or 6.07% at $20.97

In earnings after the close,

Gilead beat expectations the expectations

  • EPS $1.90 versus expectations of $1.70
  • Revenues $7.57 billion versus expected $7.14 billion
  • Shares are up over 5% in after-hours trading
