France January trade balance -€6.5 billion vs -€3.9 billion prior

  • Prior -€3.9 billion; revised to -€3.5 billion

The French trade deficit widened slightly in January with exports falling by 4.5% on the month while imports rose by 1.2% on the month. In case you missed the December report, the French trade deficit narrowed in 2024 to €81.0 billion and that was half of what it was of the record deficit level in 2022 of €162.6 billion. We’ll see if there will be further improvements this year or if Trump’s tariffs will also bite at trade conditions later in the year.
