Antony has been nominated for La Liga’s Player of the Month award as the Manchester United loanee’s excellent form for Real Betis continues.
The 25-year-old winger swapped Manchester for Seville at the end of January after firmly falling down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
It brought an end, if only temporarily, to Antony’s dismal experience at the Theatre of Dreams after his blockbuster £81 million move from Ajax in 2022.
There is no buy-clause included in the loan deal but Real Betis have agreed to pay 84 percent of the Brazilian’s £105,000-a-week salary, amounting to a saving of around £1.5 million for United from now until the end of the season.
A Spanish Revival
Despite his dismal form for the Red Devils, Antony has found a new lease of life since joining Los Verdiblancos, scoring twice and providing an assist in three league matches. The winger also scored a brilliant long-range effort in the Europa Conference League as Real Betis ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Belgian side Gent in the first-leg.
And this brilliant form has now seen Antony listed among the candidates for La Liga’s Player of the Month award.

Tweet: “Antony has been included in La Liga’s Player of the Month candidates with Kylian Mbappé, Pedri, Ante Budimir and Oihan Sancet.”
The 25-year-old is joined by Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe and Barceloa starlet Pedri for the nomination, as well as Osasuna’s Ante Budimir and Athletic Club’s Oihan Sancet.
Ineos’ Bizarre Decision
United chose not to target a replacement for Antony, despite Marcus Rashford also leaving Old Trafford in his own loan move to Premier League rival Aston Villa.
The team’s existing cohort of attackers, outside of the excellent Amad, have been struggling all season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combining for a paltry five league goals between them.
And the devastating news Amad sustained a serious ankle injury in training, requiring a surgery which is likely to rule out the Ivorian international until the end of the season, has exacerbated the incredulous decision by Ineos to not buttress United’s attack.
With Antony’s performances in Spain putting the Brazilian on a par with players like Mbappe and Pedri, and Rashford producing one of the best attacking displays from a Premier League player last weekend, this choice by United’s executive structure grows more bizarre by the day.
