Club boss gives crucial injury update on United loanee as he slams "total madness" over his fitness

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has revealed that Manchester United loanee Dan Gore is suffering from a hairline fracture on his metatarsal, which is expected to keep him out for the better part of February.

Gore joined Rotherham on loan in January in search of regular first-team minutes after a disappointing spell at Port Vale last season, which saw him make just one appearance before he picked up an injury.

The midfielder had a bright start to life at Rotherham, coming off the bench and providing an assist on his debut against Birmingham City.

However, he has not featured in any of Rotherham’s last three matchday squads.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gore picked up a foot injury that will keep him sidelined for weeks.

Last week, Evans bizarrely claimed that they didn’t do enough in training for Gore to have a sore nose, let alone a sore foot.

It’s understood that these remarks didn’t go down very well at Old Trafford and it raised eyebrows among club chiefs.

Evans has now provided an update on Gore’s fitness, specifying the nature of the setback and when he is likely to return to action. Evans also slammed those questioning the realness of Gore’s injury.

The Rotherham gaffed told BBC, “It’s total madness from people in dark bedrooms on social media. Dan has just been unlucky.”

“Erik ten Hag (former United manager) absolutely loved him and had him in and around the first-team environment.”

“The kid went to Port Vale and got an injury and then went back to Manchester United and got injured again. He got himself back to fitness and then came to us.”

Evans added, “I think Dan is going be [out for] the best part of the month.”

“He had a slight hairline fracture on his metatarsal and the reality is, these things can happen at any time.”

“It can be when you’re under duress or even when you’re just walking. Dan will be back before the end of the season. We worked really hard to get him here because other clubs in League One wanted him.”

“He played for us at Birmingham and everyone could see that he’d come from somewhere higher and was a real talent. He’s really down about it, we’re really down about it. What do you do? You put your shoulders back and deal with it.”

Rotherham currently sit in 14th place in League One and are back in action later today when they travel to Reading.
