Euro 2024: Portugal’s Smooth 3-0 Win Over Turkey

Portugal Dominates Turkey to Reach Last 16 🇵🇹

Portugal secured their spot in the last 16 at Euro 2024 with a smooth victory over Turkey in Dortmund. The match ended 3-0, and here’s how it all went down.

European Championship Turkey 0 – 3 Portugal

Scorers:

  • Bernardo Silva (21′)
  • Samet Akaydin (28′ OG)
  • Bruno Fernandes (55′)

Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva got the ball rolling midway through the first half. A cross from Nuno Mendes, deflected right into Silva’s path, saw him strike past Turkey’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. The second goal was a gift—Samet Akaydin’s unfortunate own goal. Trying to pass back to Bayindir, Akaydin didn’t look up, and the ball rolled straight into the net.

The Turkish fans, who had started their day with an exuberant march draped in flags, were suddenly deflated. On the other side, Portugal’s supporters were fewer but just as spirited, celebrating their team’s fluid and composed play.

The third goal came when Cristiano Ronaldo, showing true team spirit, set up Bruno Fernandes for an easy tap-in. The game was sealed before the hour mark.

With this win, the 2016 champions move forward confidently, set to face Georgia from Group F next. Meanwhile, Turkey still has a chance to qualify when they meet the Czech Republic in Hamburg.
