Father of Liverpool midfielder wants his son to play for Premier League rivals

Father of Liverpool midfielder wants his son to play for Premier League rivals

Former Newcastle player Lee Clark has expressed his desire for his son Bobby Clark to follow in his footsteps and don the black and white stripes of the Magpies.

Lee joined Newcastle in 2005 and had a successful time there, making 260 appearances, scoring 27 and assisting 28.

During an appearance in the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Lee was asked if he dreams of seeing his son playing for the Magpies, to which he responded:

“Absolutely. I don’t know how many fathers and sons have done it for the club. I was lucky enough to do it 265 times.

“Who knows, he might have to do an Alan Shearer and come back. But yeah, that would be my ultimate dream. Definitely.”

Bobby Clark was part of the Newcastle academy before joining Liverpool

Clark left the Newcastle academy to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in 2021 as he was not enjoying himself at the Magpies.

And joining the Reds is turning out to be a great decision for the teenager.

Liverpool’s injury crisis this season has given some of the academy youngsters a chance to prove themselves in the first team and Clark has take the opportunity with both hands.

He played a significant role in their League Cup win over Chelsea last month and has since then been getting a lot of time with the first team.

He scored one and assisted another in Liverpool’s 6-1 win over Sparta Prague, taking his tally to 1 goal and 2 assists in 11 appearances for the club. (Transfermarkt)

Bobby Clark has been impressive for Liverpool this season

Will Clark follow his father’s footsteps?

Given his breakthrough this season and the number of opportunities with the first team he is getting at Liverpool, it is unlikely that he will leave this summer.

However, whether he eventually returns to Newcastle in the future remains uncertain.
