Fed’s Barkin: Does not see rate hike as ‘close’ to the base case

  • Does not expect tariffs to result in a large reshoring of US manufacturing any time soon
  • Expects 12 months inflation numbers will come down ‘significantly’ in the first quarter

There are some base case effects that should help bring down inflation numbers in Q1 and that would highlight Fed optionality on rate cuts.
