Fed’s Hammack: Fed likely to hold rates steady ‘for some time’

  • Further easing in inflation is far from certain and upside risks abound
  • Easing inflation has been uneven and has slowed
  • Seeks evidence inflation is moving to 2% before supporting more cuts
  • Patient policy will also allow Fed to monitor jobs market
  • Policy does not appear to be ‘meaningfully restrictive’
  • Broad financial conditions are accommodative right now

Hammack is a hawk but her comments here are mostly in line with what other officials at the Fed have been saying.
