Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea are closing in on completing a deal for Fulham star and reported Manchester United defensive target Tosin Adarabioyo.
Over the past few weeks, the out-of-contract Fulham defender was mentioned as a prime alternative for United in the club’s efforts to bolster their defensive department.
Newcastle were thought to be leading the race to secure Adarabioyo’s services but a report covered by The Peoples Person warned that the Red Devils were still in contention to land him.
It was believed that United and the Magpies were the two main clubs battling it out for the 26-year-old up until recently when Chelsea entered the fray and went a step further by offering him a contract.
Details of the terms put on the table by the Blues to the player, such as the length of the deal and financial terms were not specified. However, it seems that Chelsea’s proposal proved satisfactory to Adarabioyo and his representatives if the latest update from Romano is anything to go by.
The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Chelsea are closing in on deal to sign Tosin Adarabioyo, negotiations at final stages.”
“Newcastle have been working on Tosin deal for weeks but Chelsea now clear favorites, cautious until it’s sealed.”
“Tosin to be first signing for Enzo Maresca, if all goes to plans.”

It remains to be seen whether INEOS let Adarabioyo complete his switch to Stamford Bridge or they’ll swoop in and attempt to lure the Englishman to United instead.
Obtaining Premier League-proven quality like Adarabioyo for free is a very rare prospect and it’s easy to see why top-flight clubs are looking to get a transfer over the line early enough.
A product of the Manchester City academy, Adarabioyo has played 129 games for the Cottagers since he joined them in 2020.
