German state election – exit polls show Chancellor Scholz’s party beats far-right

German leader Scholz’s centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) won Sunday’s regional election in stronghold Brandenburg.

It was a very narrow win, by just one or two percentage points, according to exit polls.

  • exit poll projections have SPD on 31 to 32%
  • with far-right AfD on 29 to 30%

If there is an FX implication it’ll be a positive for EUR at the margin.
