Germany’s Scholz on China and Taiwan: We assume no one will try to change by force

Germany’s Scholz is speaking on China (and Taiwan) saying:

  • We assume that nobody will try to change things by force
  • joint hope is that there will be agreement on China cards issued by the end of October.

Meanwhile EU’s Von Der Leyen adds:

  • On China tariffs, there has to be a level playing field
  • We are negotiating with China on what compensation could be, such as price commitments or investments in Europe
  • Negotiations with China will continue even if tariffs enter into force
