Germany’s SPD says it is unclear if they will be part of the future government

  • We do not get to decide who holds talks on the coalition
  • It will be interesting to hear how Merz envisions cooperation with the SPD

The SPD were trounced in the election over the weekend, suffering their worst ever voter support in a federal election. As mentioned here, Friedrich Merz’s CDU/CSU alliance might not find it too appealing to team up with the SPD given the public backlash. At this point, pairing up with the Greens is much more inviting.
