Wegovy and Mounjaro are two weight loss injections that works by reducing appetite. Wegovy contains a drug called semaglutide. while Mounjaro has Tirzepatide. These drugs mimic hormones in the body, making you feel full after eating. Mounjaro also affects another hormone that helps with metabolism and energy use. Both drugs are given as weekly injections that can be self-administered.
people start on a low dose and gradually increase it. Many begin losing weight within a few weeks. studies show that after a year, people using wegovy, along with changes in diet and exercise, may lose over 10% of their body weight. Mounjaro users may lose even more, but the exact comparison in unclear. However, weight gain can occur once the treatment stops.
Currently, only wegovy is available on the NHS in England. Wales, and Scotland, but Mounjaro will be offered soon. To qualify for these treatments, patients need to be obese or have certain weight related health issues like high blood pressure. There are guidelines to follow, including combining the drugs with diet and exercise and treatment should not last more than two years.
Although the government sees these drugs as a way to help people with obesity return to work. NHS experts are concerned about the already high demand for these treatments, which may strains services.
