Nigerian forward, Victor Boniface, has expressed his disappointment with the Confederation of African Football’s decision to exclude him from the 2024 CAF Player of the Year shortlist.
Boniface, a key player for Bayer Leverkusen, was noticeably absent from the list that was unveiled on Thursday.
Despite his stellar performance in the previous season, where he helped Bayer Leverkusen secure the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles and reach the Europa League final, Boniface did not make the cut.
Throughout the season, Boniface scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 34 matches, earning him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and a place in the Team of the Season.
In response to his omission, he took to social media on X on Thursday, saying: “Rookie of the Season. Team of the Season. No worries. I no play AFCON. Na why I dey wait for Memes d’Or.”
Boniface missed the Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.
