“In the next few days…”: Two European heavyweights plotting sensational January swoop for United superstar – report

Two European giants have now joined the race Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford with INEOS open to his departure in January.

The Mancunian publicly revealed his desire to leave his boyhood club, and the revelation was not received kindly by the dressing room and coach Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese dropped him for four matches in a row and even though he was part of the matchday squad for the game against Newcastle, he did not make it off the bench.

The Red Devils are hoping to earn between £50 million to £60 million for their academy graduate while they would also get rid of his humongous £375,000 per week wages (as per capology) in the process.

Rashford’s future

United are hoping to agree a permanent deal for the Englishman so that the money can be reinvested into finding the perfect striker for Amorim, who wants the club to sign Viktor Gyokeres as soon as possible.

However, such an expensive deal will be difficult for most of the clubs to afford with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid eyeing only a loan deal, and even then United would need to pay the majority of Rashford’s wages.

Saudi Arabian clubs can certainly afford the England international but he has no desire to leave Europe for the Middle East at this point.

Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce were also monitoring proceedings but it would be difficult for them to pay both the asking price and his wages.

Teamtalk have now revealed that long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain have once again joined the race and they have company in the form of Borussia Dortmund.

While PSG certainly have the money to afford Rashford, the Bundesliga club could look to repeat their loan trick like the one they used for Jadon Sancho.

“European giants Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are showing renewed interest in exiled Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, TEAMtalk can reveal.

PSG, Dortmund enter race

“PSG remain in the race for him after registering their interest last summer. They see him as a versatile forward option and Dortmund regard him as a quality potential addition to strengthen their squad.

“The German team, who may look to repeat the loan move trick they did with Jadon Sancho in 2024, could take concrete steps to evaluate what is and what isn’t possible with Rashford in regards to a deal. We understand that in the next few days, important developments are expected for Rashford.”

Dortmund would likely offer either a direct loan or a loan with an option to buy for a price which would be far lower than what INEOS would like to earn. The German giants’ record buy was Ousmane Dembele back in 2016 for €35 million.

It will be interesting to see what INEOS decide with regards to the academy graduate’s future. While a permanent solution will be the best option, a loan exit will also be evaluated as it would allow the player to regain his form while also maximising his market value.
