"It's being discussed": Surprise club plotting to complete summer swoop for Bruno Fernandes - report

Saudi Arabia Pro League giants Al-Ittihad are reportedly keen on making a summer swoop for Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Despite United’s struggles this season, Fernandes has still managed to put up impressive numbers.

The Portugal international has plundered 10 goals and seven assists in 33 Premier League appearances. Across all competitions, he has managed 15 goals and 11 assists – such has been the level of impact.

Fernandes’ importance to United has been made even more apparent considering just how much the team has struggled in his absence due to injury in their past two matches vs. Crystal Palace and more recently, Arsenal.

In both games, the Red Devils have been dominated on their way to defeat.

It was previously stated that United bosses led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe would be willing to let almost every United player within the ranks leave for the right offers.

Only Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund are believed to be untouchable and will not be sold under any circumstances.

It was revealed that even Fernandes and Marcus Rashford could depart if they were to receive crazy offers for either of them. The skipper responded to these claims in an interview with Portuguese media and insisted that the decision as to whether he or not he will be playing for United next season doesn’t solely depend on him.

He however remarked that at the moment, his attention is on the 20-time English champions and helping the club to get back on track in terms of performances.

According to The Telegraph, Fernandes is attracting overtures from Saudi Arabia.

This is not the time outfits from the Gulf state have been mentioned to be eyeing the 29-year-old playmaker. Al-Hilal’s pursuit of him has been well-documented.

Jason Burt now states that Al-Ittihad, which already has the likes of Karim Benzema, Fabinho and N’Golo Kante on their payroll also want Fernandes.

The newspaper reveals, “There is also huge interest in Bruno Fernandes. Although that deal is regarded as far less likely, it is being discussed within the Pro League.”

“Whether Fernandes is one of the players who goes remains to be seen. The United captain also has two more years left on his contract, and with an option for a further year, and the 29-year-old would be in demand if he became available.”

“But that seems highly unlikely with United’s new owners, Ineos, having quickly concluded that the Portuguese international remains a critical part of the squad as a player but also as a leader. His importance has been underlined by how United have struggled without him.”

Burt further points out, “In saying that, if United were made an extraordinary offer for Fernandes and he was interested in leaving them it would have to be considered. There has been previous interest in Fernandes from Al-Hilal, who have just won the Pro League, and Ittihad would be interested this time round if they were given any encouragement.”

United return to action on Wednesday when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford. In the crucial fixture which will all but determine which team clinches Europa League football through a league finish, Ten Hag will be hoping to have Fernandes back and available for selection.
