Bloating – every one of us has experienced it at some point in life. That uncomfortable sensation in your stomach can literally show up anytime.

1. What Really Is This Full Feeling in Your Tummy?

Bloating is a sensation where one feels as if the stomach has been overfilled with food or gas, or there is a sense of discomfort or an ache in the abdomen. Sometimes, it is accompanied by a swollen abdomen. However, it usually resolves on its own.

2. Why Are You Feeling Bloated?

  • Foods that are not well digested can lead to the accumulation of gas in the stomach.
  • Not being able to poop can result in trapped gas within the system and make you feel bloated.
  • Some people cannot tolerate particular foods, such as dairy and beans, which can lead to bloating.
  • Swelling of the abdomen may occur as a result of hormonal changes during the periods due to water retention.

3. Is Bloating Common?

  • Super common — yes you heard it right. Most women feel bloated before or during their periods.
  • Even healthy people can experience it, with a not so active lifestyle.

4. Remedies – To Ease Your Bloating

  • Drink herbal tea — peppermint, chamomile, or ginger tea.
  • Go have your favorite yogurt and probiotics — it will increase the metabolism which will help in digestion.
  • Eat smaller meals, and chew your food properly.
  • Eat slowly, take smaller bites.
  • Refrain from gas-producing foods.
  • Sip that water, you have been avoiding, it will kick out extra salt buildup out of your body.
  • Keep yourself moving — try and take a walk after each meal.
  • Join a gym, dance class — keep your body active.
  • Identify the trigger foods, and avoid them.
  • Peppermint oil capsules relax your stomach and help in bloating.

5. Treatment for a Bloated Stomach

  • A professional dietician can help figure out the trigger foods, and will plan a diet according to your body type.
  • Keep track of your bloating patterns — and the causes behind it — eliminate it out of your life.
  • Track your daily steps.

Bloated stomach is a regular thing that does not pose any issue during daily activities, it can be self corrected. In case there is persistent bloating accompanied by severe pain, vomiting, or weight loss, consult a physician.
