Manchester City suffer its first league defeat in 2024

Pep Guardiola saw his Manchester City side lose their first Premier League game of the year and the season in the hands of Bournemouth.

Manchester City went into the game with a huge opportunity to extend their lead over Arsenal by eight points after the Gunners were defeated by Newcastle United in an early kick-off.

What happened between Bournemouth and Manchester City?

Antoine Semenyo and Evanlison scored in each half of the game as Bournemouth won their first-ever win against Manchester City at Vitality Stadium on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

The Cheeries came into the game full of confidence after picking up four points from their last two games against Aston Villa and Arsenal. This form showed all through the game as the Premier League Champions could not get a shot on target until the 80th minute.

Josko Gvardiol the ball past Mark Travers in the 82nd minute as they were in desperate search of the equaliser. Erling Haaland thought he had snatched a point but his close-range shot was saved on the line before his rebound stuck the post.

This defeat means City slipped to second after Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton, while Bournemouth climbed up to eighth.
