Mats Hummels growing impatient as Roma struggle to offload Chris Smalling

Mats Hummels is reportedly waiting for Roma to confirm their intentions of signing him to a two-year deal.

The German free agent – fresh off a Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund – has been growing impatient with the Giallorossi’s lack of urgency.

Hummels, as recounted in Italian media, has been locked in talks with Roma over a free signing this summer.

The Giallorossi are said to be his preferred destination.

However, Hummels’ patience is reportedly starting to wear out as he wants to complete a move to a new club within the next two weeks in order to complete a full preseason training camp ahead of the new season.

According to Corriere della Sera, the reason behind Roma’s inability to close the deal now is Chris Smalling’s uncertain future.

The capital club want to get rid of the English defender but so far no convincing offer has come through.

Moreover, Smalling seems reluctant to consider the few proposals on his desk.

Without Smalling’s departure, Roma cannot sign Hummels as his replacement.
