Nigerian artists have dominated the nominations for the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards, as announced by the Recording Academy on Friday.
This year’s nominations include returning Nigerian stars Burna Boy, who earned a nod for his hit song “Higher,” and Asake, recognized for his collaboration with Wizkid on “MMS.” Davido also received his second nomination in this category for his contribution to Chris Brown’s “Sensational,” while Lojay picked up his first Grammy nomination for the same track.
Yemi Alade earned her first solo Grammy nomination for her hit song “Tomorrow,” and Tems received a nod for “Love Me Jeje” in the Best African Music Performance category. Notably, Tems is the only African artist with three nominations across global music categories; her debut album *Born in the Wild* is nominated for Best Global Music Album, and her song “Burning” is up for Best R&B Song.
Young sensation Rema secured a nomination in the Best Global Music Album category for his second album, *HEIS*. Other Nigerian nominees include Jordan Adetunji, recognized for his viral hit “Kelani,” with his *Bloody Civilian* also earning a nod in the Best Reggae Album category for its role in the soundtrack of Bob Marley’s *One Love*.
This year marks Burna Boy’s sixth consecutive Grammy nomination, solidifying his status as the most-nominated Nigerian artist. Since his first nomination for Best Global Music Album at the 2020 Grammys and his 2021 win for *Twice as Tall*, African music’s global presence has steadily grown.
In the wider Grammy scene, Beyoncé leads with 11 nominations for her genre-blending album *Cowboy Carter*, contending across Record, Song, and Album of the Year categories, as well as Pop, Rap, Country, and Americana. Other top nominees include Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven nominations, while Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter follow with six nominations each.
The 67th Grammy Awards will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States.
