Manchester United’s FA Cup success salvaged something from an otherwise miserable season for Erik ten Hag and his troops.
United recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish and Ten Hag’s position is still up for debate at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid recorded their 15th Champions League victory with a raft of big names at Wembley to oversee the 2-0 win against Dortmund.
Former United boss Jose Mourinho was one of those in attendance and was quizzed on a range of subjects whilst working for TNT Sport.
As reported by Team Talk, Mourinho didn’t hold out much hope for an upturn in fortunes for United next season and believes Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will remain the domain force in England.
“I think more of the same,” he said on United, before reiterating the strength of City.
“I think Pep laughs at the mess of all the other teams,” quipped the 61-year-old.
It was Guardiola’s City that Mourinho failed to topple during his time in Manchester with a second place finish behind the Cityzens the best he could muster.
Mourinho’s stance on United won’t come as a shock to United fans who are acutely aware of the improvements required at the club.
The Portuguese coach was tipped for a return to the Premier League, with his hat being thrown into the ring to replace Ten Hag, should the Dutchman be relieved of his duty.
However, Jose has recently confirmed his role at Turkish Champions, Fenerbahce, ruling him out of a potential return.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag nervously waits on the outcome of INEOS’ end-of-season review, which will determine whether he gets a third season in the Old Trafford hot seat.
With the summer window fast approaching, an announcement on the managerial position is expected in the coming days.
