The power balance has certainly shifted a bit after Mikel Arteta has his side competing for the Premier League title while Manchester United slump from one rebuild to another.

In that light, their potential interest in Marcus Rashford for a summer move spoke volumes about both clubs.

Rashford suffered from a nightmare season, failing to hit the lofty heights of last year and looking troubled by the vitriol directed at him by the fans for his perceived lack of effort.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have built a well-functioning attack with a mix of experience and youth so it makes they would want to add a bonafide English, league-proven talent in Rashford.

Now, it looks like the order to buy Rashford for Arsenal has come from the boss himself, who’s the driving force behind the interest.

Teamtalk reports that Arteta has “personally spoken” to Rashford in recent times to convince him to make the potential earth-shattering move.

The report states that there is mutual interest in the move which would encourage Arsenal as getting Rashford from United would be more than just a transfer.

Despite this year, Rashford remains a symbol of the success of United academy and his 40-goal involvements the season before this speak of a player who’s lethal when he turns it on.

Therefore, it is not a surprise that even in his down-phase, United are wary of strengthening a direct rival, especially as he will probably attract interest from no-English clubs as well.

However, it has been reported recently that United would be open to selling Rashford for the right price and if the player wants to move.

If both of those parameters happen with the Arsenal deal, then maybe this move would suit all parties in the long run, despite the negative optics of it for United in the long run.
