In a bold move underscoring its unwavering commitment to cryptocurrency, Strategy — formerly known as MicroStrategy — has acquired an additional 20,356 bitcoins for approximately $1.99 billion.

Michael Saylor announced on X, “Strategy has acquired 20,356 BTC for $1.99B at $97,514 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC yield of 6.9% YTD 2025.”

This purchase, executed between February 18 and 23, 2025, was financed through a zero-coupon convertible note offering, as disclosed in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

This latest acquisition brings Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings to approximately 499,096 bitcoins, purchased at an aggregate cost of $33.1 billion, with an average price of $66,357 per bitcoin. Data from Saylortracker shows that the current market value of these holdings stands at $47.8 billion, reflecting a substantial unrealised gain of over $14.7 billion.

The convertible notes issued to fund this purchase are set to mature on March 1, 2030, and feature a 0% coupon rate. Each $1,000 block of notes is convertible into 2.3072 shares of Strategy’s Class A common stock at $433.43 per share, representing a 35% premium over the current market price.

Strategy Maintains its 21/21 Plan

Despite a net loss of $670 million in the fourth quarter of 2024, Strategy remains steadfast in its long-term bitcoin acquisition plan. The company’s Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has been a vocal advocate for Bitcoin, suggesting that the United States should consider adopting a strategic Bitcoin reserve to maintain economic leadership.

This investment strategy aligns with Strategy’s “21/21 Plan,” which aims to raise $42 billion over the next three years through a combination of equity and fixed-income instruments to fund further bitcoin acquisitions. To date, the company has secured $20 billion of this target, primarily through senior convertible notes and debt offerings.

As of February 25, 2025, Bitcoin is trading at approximately $88,687, below its peak of over $109,000 last month.
