Ted Cruz says he hopes tariffs won’t last an “extended period of time”

The Huffington Post reports on comments from Texas Senator Ted Cruz:

Cruz said he hopes Trump tariffs won’t last an “extended period of time.”

“Texas does an enormous amount of trade with both Mexico and Canada, and so my hope is these tariffs act as the incentive that President Trump said they were designed to be.”

What’s interesting is that this is a similar line to Senate majority leader John Thune. It’s not clear if he’s directing these ‘hopes’ at Trump or trying to offer some guidance.

Note that Cruz was born in Canada, though he once pretended that he didn’t know he had Canadian citizenship.
