Timothy Parducci Goes Beyond the Job to Keep People Safe

Timothy Parducci joined Crothall as a housekeeper one year ago and had never worked in healthcare. But his common-sense approach to solving problems is making our hospital safer for everyone.

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley in Ukiah Valley, California, uses a vendor to empty large trash bins just outside of the hospital primary entrances. When Tim realized they would not be there for three days during the Memorial Day weekend, he emptied the cans himself. It wasn’t his job, but his decision meant that patients and others would not be greeted by overflowing trash cans.

He also understands our business well. He noticed recently that a patient who was in isolation in the ICU was transferred to surgery, but the nursing staff removed a sign indicating the room needed a terminal cleaning. He made sure to alert the associate assigned to clean the room. Without wearing protective gowns and gloves, the associate could have been exposed to healthcare associated infections.

HCAHPS scores at the community hospital serving 16,000 residents have increased significantly in the past year. “I have no doubt Tim’s work has had an impact on our scores,” says EVS Director Kristina Mudd. Because of his actions and commitment, Tim was recently promoted to lead housekeeper.

“We talk often about how we clean our patient rooms as though the next patient could be one of our loved ones,” says Mudd. “Tim takes that to heart – not just in cleaning patient rooms, but making sure the hospital is a clean and safe place for our community.”
