UMich final February consumer sentiment 64.7 versus 67.8 expected

  • Prior month 71.1
  • Current conditions 65.7 vs 68.7 prelim
  • Current conditions 74.0 prior
  • Expectations 64.0 vs 67.3 prelim
  • Expectations prior 69.3
  • One-year inflation 4.3% vs 4.3% prelim
  • Five-year inflation 3.5% vs 3.3% prelim

A fall to 64.7 from 71.1 is dramatic for this indicator and puts it back at the lowest since late 2023. That said, this indicator is highly political and hasn’t been useful for a long time. The market reaction has been minimal.
