United’s man of the match vs Ipswich gives brutally frank account of Amorim’s first match in charge

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has called on him and his teammates to look forward, following Sunday’s disappointing draw with Ipswich Town.

United took an early lead through Marcus Rashford, who got on the end of a sensational Amad Diallo cross to guide the ball into the back of the net.

However, Ipswich pushed back and grew into the game as time went by. Eventually, the Tractor Boys restored parity after Omari Hutchinson’s effort deflected off Noussair Mazraoui.

It could have been much worse for United, were it not for a number of heroic saves from their goalkeeper.

Onana made two big stops to deny Liam Delap in either half. He also pulled off another instinctive late save to thwart substitute Conor Chaplin.

In his post-match press conference, Ruben Amorim admitted that Onana ensured the Red Devils were not on the losing side at Portman Road.

Speaking to MUTV [via Manchester Evening News], Onana refused to dwell on the team’s performance vs. Ipswich, instead choosing to look ahead.

“We are at such a big club so there is no time to cry. We have to move on. Good games will come, better days will come.”

“I always say that it will not rain forever; the sun will shine. We know that it is just a matter of time.”

“We have to continue working hard, pushing ourselves, stay together and stay positive because there are still a lot of games to go, competitions where we can fight. We are all excited and very positive about this season.”

On his individual display, Onana remarked, “It was not enough [his saves] to win the game. I think we have to continue working hard. I will always take responsibility.”

“Of course, I am happy with these saves but the most important thing is the victory of the team; when you don’t win it is difficult.”

“We have to move on, take responsibility and move on and be very positive.”

Up next for United is a Europa League fixture against FK Bodø/Glimt on Thursday.
